How are the courses structured?

Each course consists of a lecture followed by a Question & Answer session. The length of the lecture varies by course, but approximate times can be found in the next section. The questions following the lecture are presented in a “no-fail” format – meaning that all must be answered correctly in order to complete the training. If the user answers a question incorrectly, an explanation will be given for why that was not the best response and the user will be taken back to the question to try again. You will only be able to move on once the question is answered correctly.

How long are the courses?

The courses vary in length. In addition to the lecture times listed on the following page, each course has a Question & Answer session as described above. The number of questions is generally between 10 and 15, and the amount of time needed for this section can vary widely depending upon the amount of guidance the user needs in order to answer each question correctly. The lecture lengths for each course can be found below:

Employee Courses:

Harassment Avoidance Training for Employees 18 minutes
Workplace Violence: What Employees Need to Know 25 minutes

Manager Courses:

Harassment Avoidance Training for Managers 80 minutes
Harassment Avoidance Training for Managers - California 120 minutes
Discipline & Termination: Avoiding the Legal Pitfalls 50 minutes
Workplace Violence: What Managers Need to Know 50 minutes
Taming the Three-Headed Monster: FMLA/ADA/Workers’ Compensation 30 minutes

What happens after I complete the test?

After you finish viewing the lecture and answer all test questions correctly, your internet browser will load and display a congratulations screen. At that time, you will have the option to view and/or print a copy of your certificate of completion. An email is also sent to the Training Administrator stating that you completed the course and including your certificate.

When I play the CD and try to login, I am told that my user name cannot be found.

There are two common, easily solved reasons why you might see this message. The first thing to check is whether you have already set up your own user account. The CDs will only accept user names and passwords that were created on our registration page – it will not accept the login and password located in your instructions. To solve this problem, please go to http://www.preventionpoint.com/lms/login.cfm and enter the login/password combination contained in your instructions. You will be taken to a registration page where you will choose your own unique login and password. After completing this step, please close the browser and insert the CD. This time when the login screen appears, enter the personal login and password that you just created on the website.

The second situation that can cause a “user name not found” error is when you try to take a course for which you are not registered. When you set up your account, you are asked to choose which courses you need to take. If you later try to take one of the other courses, you will receive this error message. To fix this problem, go to http://www.preventionpoint.com/lms/login.cfm and log in using your personal user name and password. You will have the option to register for any other courses that you are required to take. Check the box(es) for the course(s) that you still need to take and click submit. Your password will now work for those courses.

I set up my account, but the CD is still telling me that it can’t find my user name.

Make sure that you are entering in the username and password EXACTLY as you entered it on the registration page. If you are unsure of what your login and password are, please contact your Training Administrator, who will be able to check for you. Alternatively, if you entered an email address during registration, you may click on the “Forgot your password?” link on the login page. Your login and password information will be sent to your email address.

Also, make sure you check to see which message appears after pressing the submit button when you set up your user account. There are two possible messages: one lets you know that your user ID has been successfully created, and another tells you that the user name you chose already exists. If you see the message letting you know that the user name you wanted already exists, none of your information has been saved in the database. Please follow the instructions listed in the next section.

I’m trying to set up my account on the registration page, but it says that my user name already exists.

Because our database tracks people individually, it needs to be able to tell one person apart from another. It does this by assigning everyone a unique ID, which happens to be the user name you choose during registration. Since the database will not allow two people to have the same user name, you will see this error message if you choose an ID that someone else has already chosen. If this happens to you, simply hit the back button in your browser. The fields for user name and password will be blank, but the rest of your information will still be visible. Choose a new user name, re-enter the password you wish to use, and press submit.

What happens if my computer freezes or crashes?

Unfortunately, there is no way for you to control at what part of the presentation you begin. If your computer crashes you will need to restart the program from the beginning.

I need to take a break during the training. How can I pause the course so I don’t lose my progress?

Since you will not be able to shut down the training and resume where you left off, it is important to properly pause the course if you need to take a break. There is a pause button located underneath the video of the presenter; simply click on it once to pause the course. When you wish to resume the course, click on it again. This pause feature is intended for short breaks only.

Why do I need to set up my own user account?

The PreventionPoint database tracks users individually to ensure that everyone receives credit for the courses they take. It is necessary for you to create your own account so that the database knows who you are and so that your Training Administrator will know when you have completed your training.

Where do I set up my own user account?

To set up your user account, open a copy of your Internet browser and go to the following address: http://www.preventionpoint.com/lms/login.cfm. After you type in the user name and password that your Training Administrator supplied to you, you will be taken to a registration page where you will create your own personal login information in our system. To begin a training course just close the browser, put in the CD for the course you wish to take, and type in your new login information.

I use a dial-up service and lost my Internet connection during the course. What should I do?

The CD will only connect to the database twice: once when you log in at the beginning of the course and a second time when you complete the course. As long as you are logged back onto the Internet by the time you finish the course, you will not have a problem. To briefly stop the training and address the connectivity issue, press the pause button located underneath the presenter, minimize the training window, log back onto the Internet, and then resume the course.

I forgot my login and password. How can I find out what they are?

If you are unsure of your login and password, please contact your Training Administrator, who will be able to check the company’s database and give you the information. Alternatively, if you entered an email address during registration you may click on the “Forgot your password?” link on the login page. Your login and password information will be sent to your email address.

What is QuickTime?

At its simplest, QuickTime is software that allows users to play audio and video files on their computers.

Why do I need to install QuickTime?

Our courses contain video segments. In order for these videos to play, it is necessary to have QuickTime installed on your computer.

How can I tell whether or not I have QuickTime installed?

If you do not see a screen informing you that you need QuickTime, and the first screen you see after inserting the CD asks for your login/password, you already have a suitable version installed.

How do I get QuickTime?

The QuickTime Player is free, easy to get, and available to everyone on the web. QuickTime can be downloaded from www.apple.com/quicktime/download. Or, the PreventionPoint course CDs will automatically load QuickTime on your computer if it is not already installed. Just insert the CD and click “Install QuickTime” on the screen that appears. As with any software, it is recommended that you close any programs that are running on your computer (even those that may only be visible in the system tray) before installing the program.

What happens if I get a red X over the video screen?

The red "X" generally indicates one of the following three things:
  1. QuickTime is not installed. If this is the case, simply click below to download Quicktime.
  2. QuickTime is installed improperly. If this is the case, remove the existing version from your system, then click below to reinstall it.
  3. A version of QuickTime older than 5.0 is installed. If this is the case, remove the existing version from your system, then click below to reinstall it.
